What We're Watching Carl Safina on the Gulf Oil Spill FOLK Tote Bags As a premium for membership, FOLK is giving away one free tote bag to every dues-paying household. This program has been in place for nearly a year now, and the response has been very good. The steering committee looked at several different products, rejected several cheap varieties, and chose the Acme Workhorse 1500. If you shop around, you'll learn that the cost of one of these bags is about what you pay for an annual membership in FOLK. This bag is made of super strong and light ripstop nylon; a material used in backpacking gear. It is so light that it folds into a compact pouch which slips easily into a pocket or purse. It is strong enough to hold as many groceries as you can stuff into it. Our experience indicates that if this tote is with you, you'll use it, and by using it you're not consuming a throw-away shopping bag. If you've already received your tote, you know exactly what we're talking about. If you haven't yet, consider joining FOLK or if you're already a member, sending in a yearly dues payment.
